Nexon to release next StarCraft and mobile Overwatch
Blizzard has reached an agreement with South Korean game developer and publisher Nexon to publish the mobile game Overwatch and the next game in the StarCraft series. According to VGC, the Korean studio will also receive the rights to develop content for StarCraft.
"Blizzard has been bidding since the fourth quarter of the last year for major Korean game companies, offering content development rights using the ‘Starcraft’ IP and the Korean and Japanese service rights for ‘Overwatch Mobile‘ as a package deal," the report said.
The mobile version of Overwatch, known internally as Overwatch 3, could be a bridge between the console version and the new mobile format. It is being developed by Nexon's popular Emark Studios team, which created the online shooter The Finals.
Blizzard has also begun looking for new staff to work on the open-world game, including designers and design directors. However, there are no details yet about the next StarCraft game.
Recall that previously there was information that four major South Korean game studios were fighting for the right to develop the next game in the StarCraft series.
