Netflix games will be available on TVs for the first time

Netflix, which has offered games in its iOS and Android mobile apps for four years, will finally add them to its smart TV app, co-CEO Greg Peters said in an interview with Bloomberg.

Peters says one of the gaming areas Netflix is interested in is social gaming, particularly on TVs. The streaming service already offers several games that can be played together, such as Boggle Party, Pictionary: Game Night, Tetris Time Warp, and Lego Party.

Peters did not specify when users will be able to run Netflix games on TVs, but emphasized that control will continue to be carried out via smartphones, which will need to be connected using a QR code. At the same time, the gameplay itself will take place on the big screen.

Recall that earlier this year, Netflix removed more than 20 games from its library, including three projects in the Monument Valley series and the roguelike game Hades. In November 2024, the streaming service said it would invest in artificial intelligence for game creation, but a month earlier it closed its own AAA studio, which never released a single game.

Interestingly, even before the closure of the studio, which was known as Team Blue, Peters stated that Netflix had over 80 different games in development and planned to release them every month, and that the streaming service was interested in further development in this direction.
