Netflix said its cheaper ad-supported plan now has 94 million monthly active users, up more than 20 million from November 2024, according to CNBC.
This $7.99 per month plan launched in November 2022 and is a key part of the company's strategy to boost profitability amid rising content spending. For comparison, the cheapest ad-free plan costs $17.99.
According to Amy Reinhard, Netflix's president of advertising, the average "ad-only" viewer spends about 41 hours on the platform each month, more than many competitors. She also emphasized that ads maintain a level of attention comparable to the content itself.
In addition, the company notes that the advertising rate reaches more viewers aged 18 to 34 than any other broadcast or cable network in the US.
The plan is currently available in the following countries: the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, and Spain. In total, Netflix has rolled out the plan in over 40 countries, and it accounts for over 40% of new subscriptions in each of the available markets. This plan is not yet available in Ukraine.
