The Curiosity rover continues to explore Mars, despite its top speed of just 0.16 kilometers per hour. NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter recently took a picture showing the rover's trail, Engadget reports.

The road runs from the previous research area, the Gediz Vallis Canal, to the new science facility. Curiosity itself is visible as a small dot at the beginning of the approximately 320-meter-long trail. According to NASA, this is the first orbital photo of the rover while moving on the Red Planet.

The image was taken on February 28 by the HiRISE (High-Resolution Imaging Science Experiment) camera, which captured Curiosity's path over 11 trips since the beginning of the month. While on Earth, tracks might wear off fairly quickly, on Mars they persist much longer—for months before being blown away by the wind.

Curiosity is expected to reach its next research point in the near future — a region with formations that likely resulted from ancient underground water activity.
