Star Citizen developers have already raised over $800 million, but are canceling their annual offline event
Cloud Imperium Games, which has been developing the space simulator Star Citizen and the single-player campaign Squadron 42 since 2012, has already raised over $800 million. However, the developers announced that this year's CitizenCon event will be held online.
Last year during CitizenCon, developers from Cloud Imperium Games showed over an hour of Squadron 42 gameplay and announced that the game would be released in 2026. At the same time, the studio revealed plans for Star Citizen 1.0, but the game's release date from alpha is still unknown.
Instead of a traditional in-person event, the studio will be hosting a CitizenCon Direct on October 11, 2025. It will be available for free on YouTube and Twitch. During the presentation, the developers will announce news on both projects, with a primary focus on securing the release of Squadron 42 next year.
At the same time, the studio's website also shows that despite over 10 years of development, the Star Citizen community continues to support Cloud Imperium Games and actively donate. As of now, the developers have already raised $801,646,159 from 5,582,396 people.
