A Minecraft Movie has already grossed $720.8 million, while Sinners debuted with $61 million at the global box office
Warner Bros.' family blockbuster "Minecraft: The Movie" continues to dominate the box office, grossing $720.8 million worldwide after three weekends. The Jack Black and Jason Momoa-starrer added another $59 million overseas over the Easter weekend and $100 million overall, bringing its international box office to $376.2 million. Already the highest-grossing Hollywood release of 2025, A Minecraft Movie is on pace to surpass the billion-dollar mark, Variety reports.
At the same time, Warner Bros. released The Sinners, a vampire thriller directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan. The adult horror film opened to $45.6 million in the United States and Canada, and another $15.6 million in 71 countries, giving it a total opening of $61.2 million. Despite its high critical reviews — 98% on Rotten Tomatoes — and recommendations from audiences, The Sinners' budget of $90 million (excluding marketing) poses an ambitious challenge for the film to break even.
In The Sinners, Jordan plays two roles: twin brothers Smoke and Stack, who return to their hometown in the southern United States to open a jazz club, but are attacked by vampires. Good audience feedback and favorable reviews from critics will likely be the key to the film's long-term success, given its significant production costs.
A Minecraft Movie and Sinners have given Warner Bros. the top two spots in both the U.S. and international box office rankings. After a string of flops (Robert De Niro's Smart Guys and Mickey 17), this could be the start of a successful season for the studio in 2025.
