Microsoft has officially confirmed (via The Verge) that it is developing a next-generation Xbox console in partnership with AMD. Xbox president Sarah Bond announced the news in a video message, emphasizing the company's desire to create a platform that is not tied to a single store or device.

According to the statement, Microsoft and AMD have entered into a strategic multi-year partnership to jointly develop gaming chips that will be used in next-generation Xbox handheld and desktop consoles. The collaboration will also include the development of Xbox Cloud Gaming.

One of the key aspects of the next-generation Xbox will be its integration with Windows. Microsoft is aiming to make Windows the primary platform for gaming, allowing users to play on multiple devices and use multiple stores, such as Steam. Earlier, Microsoft and Asus announced the launch of the ROG Xbox Ally, a portable gaming device that will run on Windows and have access to third-party stores.

Support for the Xbox game library also remains a priority, ensuring that new devices are backward compatible with previous games. Microsoft emphasizes that this is just the beginning, and promises to reveal more details in the near future.
