Microsoft is testing a new Start menu in Windows 11
Windows Insiders can now try out a revamped Start menu with scrolling, two new display modes, and more flexible settings, Microsoft announced on the Insider blog.
The update first appeared in test builds in April and is now officially available in the Dev Channel. The menu has become larger: on large screens it can accommodate up to 8 columns of pinned apps and more recommendations.
There are two viewing modes: categorized and grid. There is also the option to completely remove the recommendations block to see more apps.
Additionally, there's a button in the Start menu to collapse or expand the Phone Link panel, and you can now change widgets on the lock screen. Another change is the ability to enter a PIN using a gamepad, which should improve the experience on portable gaming devices.
