Microsoft Edge will get AI search based on browsing history

- 11 June, 12:08 PM

Microsoft has started testing a new feature in its Edge browser called "enhanced search" in browsing history. It uses a local AI model to find visited sites even if there are errors in the query or the use of synonyms.

The feature is already available in beta versions of Edge. Once activated, it allows you to quickly find the desired page by approximate wording - for example, if the user does not remember the exact name of the site or has entered a word incorrectly. Microsoft assures that all processing occurs locally on the device, and the data is not transmitted to Microsoft servers.

This approach differs from the Recall feature that Microsoft announced for Copilot Plus PCs, where the system saves screenshots and creates a database of all user actions. In Edge's case, the AI is limited to browser history.

Along with "improved search," Microsoft is also testing Media Center, a new interface for managing media content in the browser. It lets you control audio and video playback across multiple sites from a single panel. The center also integrates a picture-in-picture feature with updated controls for conveniently watching videos on top of other tabs.

Recall that Microsoft is also currently testing a new Start menu in Windows 11 with scrolling, two new display modes, and more flexible settings.
