Microsoft Authenticator will stop supporting password saving in August

Microsoft has announced the end of the password saving feature in its Authenticator app. As of June 2025, users will no longer be able to add or import new passwords into the app. As of July, Authenticator will no longer have autofill for passwords, and as of August, all saved passwords will be deleted. In addition, all payment information stored in Authenticator will also be deleted.

The company emphasized that passkeys will remain available in the app, meaning users will be able to continue to securely log into services without having to remember complex passwords.

For those who want to stay within the Microsoft ecosystem, saved passwords will be viewable and usable through the Microsoft Edge browser, which supports its own password manager with autofill. However, for users who don't use Edge, Microsoft recommends considering alternative password managers such as 1Password, LastPass, Bitwarden, or others that are compatible across platforms and devices.

The change is part of Microsoft's strategy to improve security and move to modern authentication methods that minimize the risks associated with password hacking. Passkeys, which are supported in Authenticator, are considered more secure and convenient.

Users are advised to export their passwords from Microsoft Authenticator to another manager in advance to avoid losing access to important accounts after August 2025.
