Microsoft has announced the integration of a new GPT-5 model from OpenAI into its Copilot assistant, which is used in Microsoft 365, GitHub, Azure AI Foundry, and mobile apps. The update is now available to users.
Copilot now features Smart Mode, which automatically selects the optimal model based on the complexity of the query. This allows you to balance response speed with information processing depth.
Microsoft 365 Copilot has improved contextual understanding, the ability to support long conversations, and the accuracy of responses. GitHub Copilot with GPT-5 is available via chatbot, VS Code, and mobile app for paid users, and for organizations via policy settings.
In Azure AI Foundry, the new model is available via an API with automatic configuration selection, support for multimodal scenarios, and rich context. For regular Copilot users, GPT-5 is already available for free.
