Meta to launch $800 smart glasses with display in September 2025 — Bloomberg

Meta is preparing to launch its first smart glasses with a display — Hypernova , which will be an intermediate step towards full-fledged augmented reality glasses. The presentation of the new product is expected next month, writes Bloomberg.

The glasses will have a small screen in the right lens, which will display notifications and mini-apps. They will be controlled using a special neural bracelet, which Meta is already testing together with prototypes of the Orion AR glasses.

The company initially planned to price the Hypernova at $1,000–1,400, which would be on par with Apple’s flagship smartphones. For comparison, Ray-Ban’s current display-less Meta glasses cost $200–400, and Oakley’s new smart glasses cost up to $500.

However, Meta managed to lower the Hypernova's starting price to around $800, partly by cutting its profit margin, a common strategy for new products that is meant to stimulate demand.

At the same time, $800 will only be the base price: design variations or lenses with diopters will increase the final cost. Thus, Meta is trying to occupy the middle segment between budget smart glasses and future more expensive AR solutions.
