Meta wins case against former employee who wrote book about her experience working at the company

Meta has won a case against former employee Sarah Wynn-Williams, who wrote a book called Careless People about her experiences at the company. An arbitration court has banned her from promoting and selling the book, Engadget reports.

Sarah Wynn-Williams worked at Facebook until 2017. In her book, which the publisher called an "explosive insider account," the author reveals new details about how Mark Zuckerberg tried to bring Facebook into the Chinese market a decade ago. She also alleges that Meta's current political director, Joel Kaplan, acted improperly and reveals embarrassing details about Zuckerberg's meetings with world leaders.

The book was announced just last week, and Meta has launched a massive PR campaign against it, calling it a "new book about old news." Numerous former employees have publicly condemned Wynne-Williams’s portrayal of events that took place during her time at Facebook.

Meta filed an urgent motion with the arbitration court seeking to ban the book, claiming that Wynn-Williams had breached a non-disclosure agreement with the company. In her ruling, the arbitrator ordered the author to immediately cease making disparaging comments about Meta and to stop "further publication or distribution" of the book.

"This ruling affirms that Sarah Wynn Williams’ false and defamatory book should never have been published," Meta spokesman Andy Stone said in a statement.
