Meta is considering adding facial recognition to its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, The Information reports, citing internal company documents.

The feature, codenamed super sensing , builds on the current Live AI capabilities. It will allow users to identify people nearby simply by looking at them through the glasses. Enabling the feature will be voluntary for device owners, but there is a conflict: third parties will not be able to influence it in any way.

In the current build, the smart glasses signal the camera's activity with an LED, but it can be turned off. This means that the person will not know that their face has just been scanned.

Harvard students have previously created a prototype of I-XRAY, a system that uses Meta glasses, LLM, and open databases to identify people. The goal of this project was to demonstrate the dangers of modern technology. Meta has not commented on whether it plans to implement such a feature officially.
