Meta and the Internet Society (ISOC) have launched the Connectivity Co-financing Initiative, which aims to expand internet access around the world, the companies announced at Mobile World Congress 2025.
The companies are committing to invest $30 million by 2030 to develop infrastructure in communities that are underserved or deliberately ignored by commercial providers. The funds will be used to organize training programs to improve technical skills among those who do not have access to the Internet, as well as to build infrastructure in such regions and support the development of local service providers.
This is not the first joint project between the Internet Society and Meta. Previously, the companies have worked to improve Internet connectivity in Africa, the Asia-Pacific region, and Latin America by developing Internet Exchange Points (IXPs).
The Internet Society is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to the development and increasing accessibility of the Internet. ISOC's mission is to ensure the open development, evolution, and use of the Internet for the benefit of people around the world.
As a reminder, Meta recently announced the Waterworth project, which aims to lay 50,000 kilometers of underwater Internet cables.
