Japanese company Maxell has announced a new portable cassette player, the MXCP-P100, aimed at analog music lovers with elements of modern technology. The device supports playback of Type 1 audio cassettes up to C90 format (45 minutes per side), but does not have the Dolby Noise Reduction system.
The MXCP-P100 is equipped with Bluetooth 5.4, which allows you to use wireless headphones. There is also a standard 3.5 mm audio jack, although its output power is only 1 mW — this is enough only for low-power headphones. A brass flywheel acts as a playback speed stabilizer.
The player weighs 210 grams and has dimensions of 122×91×38 mm, so it fits easily in your pocket. The built-in battery provides up to 9 hours of battery life — depending on the type of headphone connection — and is charged via USB-C with a power of up to 5 W.
The Maxell MXCP-P100 is available in Japan for 13,000 yen (about $89). An international launch has not yet been officially confirmed.
