Bungie has finally revealed gameplay for its upcoming team-based extraction shooter Marathon. The game will be released on September 23, 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The project will also support cross-platform play and will even allow you to transfer saves between platforms. It is also known that the game will not have a free-to-play distribution model and will require purchase.
Marathon will have a session structure, where in each match six teams of three players will compete to collect the maximum amount of resources and evacuate in time. The game will have several character classes with unique skills. In addition to other players, the map will also feature enemy robot guards and aggressive fauna, which you will have to fight.
Matches will take place on an abandoned colony on the planet Tau Ceti IV. Players will encounter dynamic events that will change the conditions on the location, as well as various weather phenomena. In addition to the main objectives, it will be possible to complete an additional task and go to the orbital ship Marathon, which is hovering above the planet.
In addition to the gameplay, the studio also released a cinematic trailer, written and directed by animator Alberto Mielgo . He is known for his episodes The Witness and Jibaro for the show Love, Death & Robots. He also created the Tipping Point trailer for Ubisoft's Watch Dogs: Legion.
