MacPaw introduces Eney, an AI assistant for Mac

- 23 May, 06:33 PM

Ukrainian software developer MacPaw is introducing Eney, a "first-of-its-kind" AI assistant that is set to change the way users interact with their computers. CEO and co-founder Oleksandr Kosovan calls Eney "Computerbeing."

Eney will initially be available as a Mac extension and will be able to perform a variety of tasks using regular text commands. For example, the new assistant will be able to remove the background from an image, check the security status of your Mac, create meeting summaries, transcribe videos, and more.

MacPaw will use a set of local large language models to perform as many tasks locally as possible. This will protect user data and allow Eney to be used even offline.

Helping with simple tasks is just the beginning, and MacPaw plans to expand Eney's capabilities so that this AI assistant can use a variety of software on your computer through a single interface. For now, the assistant has a few built-in commands and integration with other MacPaw apps, as well as some third-party apps available in the Setapp store.

"In future iterations, Eney will work on a set of modular skills - small, focused capabilities that can be combined into multi-step processes. Thanks to this, Eney will be able to turn a single user request into a series of intelligent, automated steps, removing the need to switch between applications. Eney will improve through constant interaction with users and will be able to make personalized suggestions as its character develops," Kosovan wrote.

MacPaw wants to create an AI assistant that will anticipate users' needs and offer help before they even contact it.

"We are developing Eney to simplify workflows and reduce the time, and sometimes headaches, that users experience when interacting with their devices. Eney's single, universal interface will eliminate the need to switch between applications. Eney is your digital co-creator. Its fun nature simplifies interaction - just tell it what task you would like to perform, and it will do the rest," writes Kosovan.

Eney is currently in a closed beta by invitation. To get into this testing, you need to register on the waiting list on the company's official website and wait for an email from MacPaw.
