Many of us fondly remember the old days with various cell phones. Modern smartphones have become too "demanding" of attention, and some manufacturers are trying to offer a different concept. The third such attempt, the Light Phone III, is due to go on sale this summer, and the manufacturer is currently actively promoting the new product, while some bloggers are testing the durability of the new gadget.
Let me briefly remind you that the Light Phone III continues the concept of a basic phone with a very limited set of features compared to smartphones. However, the peculiarity of this model is also its price, which may be a bit shocking - $599 for pre-order, and a regular price of $799, which is on par with the iPhone 16, Pixel 9 or Samsung Galaxy S25 in the US without promotions.
Also, increased durability is expected from ordinary phones. Over time, smartphones have sometimes become too fragile, and phone cases have retained their good appearance for longer without protective cases and easily withstood falls. And, unfortunately, something unexpected did not happen. Despite its utilitarian design and relatively small dimensions, the Light Phone III's body is made of a combination of glass and metal. And this leads to the same potential problems that can occur with a regular smartphone.
True, there are also some peculiarities here, such as, for example, the matte coating of the protective glass of the display, which scratches a little differently than regular glass. However, after such a test, the glass basically cracked by accident, which is not very typical for smartphones that usually end up in the hands of a blogger.
It is also worth considering that the metal case with a black coating can also be damaged, like smartphones. And part of the back is decorated with glass with a matte coating, and can also break quite easily. So it is not surprising that the manufacturer offers appropriate protective cases. But the expectations from such an appearance of the device were still different.
