LG will permanently disable smartphone update servers on June 30, 2025

LG plans to permanently end support for its smartphones: the company will shut down Android update servers starting June 30, 2025. After that, LG users will not be able to download either system updates or security updates, Android Authority reports.

The plans to end support were first announced in 2021, when LG announced its exit from the smartphone market. At that time, the company promised to provide updates for the Velvet, Wing, and G and V series (released since 2019) for three years. As a result, these devices received updates to Android 12 or 13, depending on the specific model.

Despite the previous statement, LG continued to maintain the update servers even after the promised deadline. Now that support is ending, LG smartphones will not stop functioning, but they will no longer receive any updates.

In addition, the LG Bridge app, which was used for backup, file transfer, and device recovery, will also be discontinued on June 30.
