LEGO has announced an official set that recreates the classic Nintendo Game Boy handheld console. It will go on sale on October 1, 2025, and is now available for pre-order for $60, The Verge reports.
The set recreates the design of the original 1989 Game Boy with high accuracy. Its dimensions are approximately 14x9 cm, which almost matches the dimensions of the real console. The A and B buttons are in the signature purple color.
The LEGO Game Boy features interchangeable lenticular screens that show scenes from Super Mario Land and The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. Depending on the viewing angle, the images change, simulating animation. To do this, a special cartridge-like insert with lenticular tiles is inserted into the case.
The kit uses printed parts instead of stickers, which allows for the preservation of design elements, including the "Dot Matrix With Stereo Sound" logo, power switch, volume control, and even a unique serial number.
By the way, this is not the first collaboration between LEGO and Nintendo, they have previously released sets based on Super Mario, as well as an interactive NES. The new Game Boy is LEGO's first attempt to convey the look of Nintendo's portable classic in detail.
