ChatGPT Plus users on Mac now have Record Mode for recording meetings

- 17 July, 03:14 PM

OpenAI has expanded the Record Mode feature in ChatGPT for macOS to Plus subscribers, previously only available to business users.

The new feature adds a Record button to the desktop app's input window. It allows you to record both microphone and system audio during meetings or calls.

Once the recording is complete, ChatGPT processes the audio on OpenAI servers and creates structured notes with summaries, tasks, and timestamps. The user must grant permission to use the microphone and system audio.

A single session is limited to 120 minutes, after which the original audio recording is deleted. This may be a convenient feature for some users, but OpenAI emphasizes the importance of maintaining privacy.

"Please make sure you check local laws and always get the right consents before recording others," the official documentation states.

OpenAI also notes that the notes and transcripts you create can be used in new chats and help train models, although this option can be turned off in the settings. Team, Enterprise, and Edu workspaces are excluded from model training by default.

For now, the feature is only available on macOS. It is unknown whether support will be available on Windows or mobile platforms.

As a reminder, OpenAI also recently announced that it will use Google's cloud infrastructure for ChatGPT. This decision was made due to a lack of capacity and a growing number of users.
