Konami held a private screening of the gameplay, story and combat system of Silent Hill f

Konami held a media presentation for Silent Hill f, the next game in the Silent Hill series, which will be released on September 25, 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. According to Famitsu magazine, the plot, setting, and gameplay are noticeably different from the previous installments.

The story takes place in 1960s Japan, in the village of Ebisugaoka, based on the real-life town of Kanayama in Gifu Prefecture. The main character, a schoolgirl named Hinako, finds herself in an abandoned town where mysterious flowers infect everything around her and monsters appear on the streets. The script is written by Ryukishi07, the author of the popular novel Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. The music is composed by Akira Yamaoka.

The game focuses on close combat. There are no firearms - players will use pipes, knives, scythes, hammers, as well as special Japanese blades. Weapons will have a wear system - they need to be repaired or find a new one. You can carry up to three units at a time.

The combat system involves light and heavy attacks, evasion, stamina management, and precise counterattacks. If you react correctly to a specific enemy attack, you can perform a "perfect counterattack" and break the defense. However, most enemies do not stop from weak blows, so stamina control and timely strong blows are the key to survival.

The game also features a "spiritual power" system. It is spent during concentration, which makes counterattacks easier. In some scenes, enemies attack not physically, but psychologically - if the spiritual bar runs out, Hinako begins to lose health.

The game world is open for exploration - in addition to the main village, you can visit the school and other locations. The map displays important objects, as well as notes from the heroine herself. Some of the houses can be explored, finding historical details and useful items.

There are two forms of the main game space - the "real" world and the "reverse" world, which resembles a Shinto shrine. It is where key events, including boss battles, take place. The design of this world is less oppressive than in the classic parts of the series, but retains elements of anxiety and a sense of threat.

Silent Hill f also features numerous puzzles, some of which are related to the main plot, others are side quests. Their difficulty varies, and some require quick solutions during combat situations. To make the game easier to play, you can change the difficulty level of the combat and puzzles separately.

The inventory will be limited - the player can increase the volume by finding backpacks. In addition to first-aid kits, traditional Japanese sweets, in particular yokan, are used for treatment. A "charity" system is also available: for special items or food that can be "donated" at shrines, the player receives points to improve characteristics or receive amulets with bonuses.

According to Konami, the game will have several endings, including the traditional UFO parody ending for the series.
