HP is considering creating a portable gaming console based on SteamOS
HP, one of the leading PC manufacturers, has stated its openness to creating a portable gaming device based on Valve's SteamOS, NotebookCheck reports, citing XDA.
Despite having its own gaming brand, HP has yet to release a portable gaming PC, and the main reason for this, according to a company representative, is the limitations of the Windows operating system.
At the HP Amplify event, HP senior vice president Josephine Tan noted that Windows doesn't offer the ease of use that other portable devices like the Nintendo Switch offer, such as the ability to quickly launch the device and pick up where you left off.
However, Tan confirmed that HP is open to considering a SteamOS-powered device, given the popularity of the Steam Deck, which has already proven itself as a convenient gaming device. However, for now, Valve is only working with Lenovo to release SteamOS devices, and most manufacturers, including HP, are waiting for improvements to Windows for portable PCs.
