China will start using artificial intelligence to update the education system
China plans to use artificial intelligence to radically revamp education. AI will be used in teaching, textbooks and school curricula, an official document said, Reuters reports.
The integration of artificial intelligence will target students and teachers in primary, secondary and higher education. China's Ministry of Education said the application of AI will help "cultivate the basic abilities of teachers and students" and build "core competitiveness of innovative talents."
The ministry's website states that through artificial intelligence, students will be able to develop and improve important skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, communication and teamwork. In addition, new technologies will be used to create more innovative and challenging classrooms.
One of the drivers of this change was DeepSeek. In January, the Chinese startup introduced an open-source model, the DeepSeek R-1, which was as efficient as Western counterparts but cheaper to use and develop.
After the startup attracted global attention, some Chinese universities began to introduce AI courses and expand student enrollment. At the same time, China unveiled its first national action plan, which aims to transform the country into a "strong education nation" by 2035, using innovation to achieve this goal.
