At the CinemaCon conference, Lionsgate announced the production of a new film, John Wick 5, in which Keanu Reeves will once again play the legendary mercenary, Variety reports.
The film will be directed by Chad Stahelski, who worked on the previous installments, and produced by Basil Ivanyk and Erica Lee. Although the plot of the film is not yet revealed, the creators promise something "phenomenal and fresh."
In addition to the main film, the franchise is expanding. Lionsgate has announced an animated prequel that will tell the story of John Wick's "impossible task" of destroying all his rivals in one night. The project will be directed by Shannon Tindle and written by Vanessa Taylor.
Donnie Yen, who played the blind assassin Kane in John Wick: Chapter 4, will also direct a spin-off based on his character. Production on the film will begin this year in Hong Kong.
The John Wick franchise continues to grow in popularity, and its creators are eager to expand the universe by adding new stories and characters. Keanu Reeves remains a key figure in this fascinating world.
