OpenAI’s ChatGPT is quickly gaining popularity. According to The Information , the service’s number of paid users has grown to 20 million in just three months, up 30% from 15.5 million at the end of last year. This is a sign of growing interest in AI’s capabilities in coding, writing, medical and financial advice.
ChatGPT currently has $ 415 million in monthly revenue, equivalent to $ 5 billion annually. In addition to the standard ChatGPT Plus subscription for $20/month, OpenAI offers a premium Pro plan for $200/month, which further increases revenue. The company also earns money from the use of its models through an API, which brought in about $2 billion in 2023. If growth continues, OpenAI could reach $12.7 billion in revenue by 2025, significantly exceeding the projected $4 billion in 2024.
Despite the overall growth, the share of paid users fell from 5% to 4%. At the same time, the number of weekly active users increased to 500 million, which is 43% more than the 350 million at the end of 2023.
As a reminder, OpenAI recently completed a new round of funding, raising $40 billion. This was the largest funding round for a private technology company in history. The company is now valued at $300 billion.
