10-year-old iPhone 6s receives iOS 15.8.5 update
Apple has released iOS 15.8.5 and iPadOS 15.8.5 security updates for older devices, including the iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, first-generation iPhone SE, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 4, and iPod touch 7.
The update addresses a critical vulnerability in the ImageIO component (CVE‑2025‑43300) that could have led to memory corruption when processing a malicious image. Apple said the hole could have been exploited in "extremely sophisticated attacks against individual users."
The issue has been addressed through improved memory write limit checking, ensuring that even devices as old as a decade, like the iPhone 6s, remain protected from current threats.
This move underscores Apple's policy of long-term support for older models, especially when it comes to critical exploits that can be used by spyware.
As a reminder, Apple also recently released the stable version of iOS 26 with the Liquid Glass design. The new version of the OS was released for iPhone 11 and newer models.
