With the release of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra last year, the iPhone's biggest competitor gained a significant advantage with a new anti-glare coating on the screen. The additional polarizing layer reduced the amount of glare on the display, improving contrast in bright lighting conditions, while also adding color saturation to the image. And Apple still hasn't responded with its own solution.

As 9to5Mac notes, the first rumors about such an improvement in the iPhone 17 Pro screens appeared a year ago. Moreover, such display protection should also be even more resistant to scratches, which the proprietary Ceramic Shield, developed together with Corning, has not yet brought to perfect condition.

However, sources from MacRumors report that Apple has now abandoned such an upgrade for the iPhone 17 Pro. The reason was problems with scaling up the production of such screens for the required number of smartphones.

The process of coating the glass with the new anti-reflective layer turned out to be too slow. And even considering that only the Pro models were supposed to get it, production still wouldn't have had time to provide the necessary quantity for the new iPhone models.

So this year, Apple smartphone fans shouldn't expect such an improvement at the fall launch. However, the company certainly won't abandon a similar solution, which can be expected with future iPhone updates.
