Intel to cut more than 33,000 jobs by the end of 2025
The American company Intel has announced a significant reduction in personnel - by the end of 2025, the number of core employees will decrease from 108,900 to approximately 75,000 people. This became known after the publication of financial results for the second quarter of 2025.
According to Engadget, the cuts are part of a broader restructuring plan aimed at reducing operating costs. Intel plans to reduce costs to $17 billion in 2025 and $16 billion in 2026. To this end, the company is also abandoning previously planned infrastructure projects in Germany and Poland.
Intel is also reorganizing its manufacturing operations, merging its assembly and testing center in Costa Rica with facilities in Vietnam and Malaysia. In the U.S., the company has decided to slow down the pace of construction of a new facility in Ohio.
CEO Lip-Bu Tan said the moves were part of a strategy to improve efficiency. Tan took over as Intel CEO in March 2025, succeeding Pat Gelsinger, and has announced plans to cut costs and streamline the business.
Lip-Bu Tan also recently expressed a desire to change Intel's approach to contract manufacturing in order to win over larger customers. As part of the change, it plans to stop selling certain chip manufacturing technologies that Intel has developed internally to external customers.
