Instagram and the iPad are peers. Apple's tablets have gone through various stages of ups and downs since their launch, but there has never been an official social network app adapted specifically for the iPad.
As 9to5Mac reports with reference to The Information (paywall), Meta is still working on an official iPad app. Previously, the company has repeatedly justified the lack of such an application by a small request from users and "working on more important improvements." However, now there may be deeper reasons for such a move.
Currently, Apple tablet owners can open Instagram in a browser or install the iPhone-specific app (a scaled-up version on the tablet's large display), and the company admits that it's "not the best experience."
In addition, it is increasingly necessary to compete with TikTok. In fact, the uncertain future of the competitor was the final push for the iPad version of Instagram. (Obviously, this is not the key tool of the fight, but one of them.) Moreover, TikTok also does not have a separate application for tablets.
There is no expected release date, design details, or potential original features for the app yet. Meta itself is also not commenting on the development of the new app.
