The new Instagram Edits video creation app, developed by Meta, has become a real hit, surpassing its competitor CapCut from ByteDance by dozens of times, TechCrunch reports.
In the first two days after launch, the app was downloaded about 702,900 times on iOS devices, which is 37 times more than CapCut during the same period. In total, Instagram Edits reached 7.1 million downloads in its first week, of which 1.2 million were on iOS and 5.9 million were on Android. CapCut was downloaded only 83,500 times during the same period.
This success is due to Meta's powerful network effects, which help promote new products through a broad social media ecosystem.
Despite an impressive start, Instagram Edits has yet to catch up to CapCut in terms of total user base, which has over 1.22 billion downloads since its launch in 2020.
Users praise Edits' ease of use, support for 4K video, and lack of watermarks, but note that the app lacks some of the features found in CapCut, such as templates and transition effects.
