Camera maker Insta360 is launching an independent drone subsidiary called Antigravity. The brand's first product will be a 360-degree drone similar to the Insta360 X series of cameras. It is scheduled to be released in August 2025.
While details about the new product are still scarce, Antigravity says the drone will be aimed at both experienced users who want more creative options and beginners who are usually put off by the complexity of flying. Thanks to 360° sensors, you can change angles and crop the video after shooting, as the camera captures everything around.
Insta360 has experience with drones. A few years ago, it released the $430 Sphere, a DJI Mavic 2 attachment that allowed for 360-degree video. But the device is currently unavailable.
The transition to the production of its own drones is explained by the complexity of this market. Creating drones requires not only knowledge of cameras, but also deep technical expertise, security solutions and compliance with regulatory requirements. The allocation of a separate team at Antigravity will allow the company to work more flexibly and launch new products faster.
In the future, Antigravity plans to develop new drone lines and an ecosystem of accessories, focusing on creative photography and simplifying drone use for a wide audience.
