Insta360, known for its 360° cameras, has introduced a new model — the X5 with the ability to record 4K video at 120 fps, a larger sensor, AI features, and other improvements. The new product is already on sale for $550/€590.
The Insta360 X5 has a 1/1.28" sensor, which is 144% larger than the 1/2" sensor in the previous X3 and X4 models. This allows the camera to capture more light, and when combined with PureVideo AI technology, which reduces noise and increases dynamic range, it provides better images in low light conditions.
In addition, the 360° camera can operate in Active HDR mode, recording 5.7K 60 fps video. The camera also uses a triple AI chip system, namely a 5nm AI chip and two Pro Imaging chips. In total, this increases the camera's processing power by 140%.
The video recording modules have not changed significantly compared to the previous generation: the Insta360 X5 shoots 8K video at 30 fps in maximum mode, and 60 fps is available at 5.7K resolution. A noticeable improvement has appeared in 4K mode - it now supports recording at 120 fps.
In addition, the Insta360 X5 supports the InstaFrame quick recording function: it creates two videos at the same time - one immediately ready for publication with a fixed angle, the other automatically follows the user and keeps them in the center of the frame.
Other improvements include IP68 water protection (submersible up to 15m instead of 10m in the X4), a new Wind Guard steel mesh, and updated algorithms to reduce wind noise.
The Insta360 X5 also features a larger 2400mAh battery, which provides up to 187 minutes of operation in 5.7K 24fps mode, 37% more than the previous model. In the case of 8K 30fps, users will get 88 minutes of operation. Thanks to fast charging, 80% is charged in 20 minutes, and full in 35.
