Thanks to Apple: India has become the largest smartphone manufacturer for the US

India has overtaken China for the first time to become the top supplier of smartphones to the US, thanks to Apple's shift in production, according to a new report from Canalys.

India accounted for 44% of smartphone shipments to the US in the second quarter of 2025, while China's share fell from more than 60% last year to 25%. Vietnam, home to Samsung Electronics, came in second.

The change of leaders is associated with the active transfer of iPhone production to India and a premature increase in smartphone stocks on the market due to fears of new tariffs. In just one year, production volumes in India have tripled, while iPhone shipments to the US have decreased by 11% due to uneven accumulation of stocks. Analysts note that demand for smartphones remains weak: despite increased supplies, the market grew by only 1%.

Apple and other manufacturers are gradually reducing their reliance on China, shifting some production to India and Vietnam to avoid the risks of tariffs and geopolitical tensions. At the same time, this is causing discontent from President Donald Trump, who is urging companies to place production directly in the United States.

Currently, most iPhones are still made in China, with no production in the U.S. At the same time, Apple has pledged to hire more workers in the country and invest $500 billion over the next four years.

Thus, India is quickly becoming a key iPhone assembly center for the US market, and the global smartphone manufacturing map continues to change.
