According to The New York Times, Elon Musk significantly increased his drug use during the 2024 presidential campaign, in which he donated about $270 million to support Donald Trump. Musk's drug use reportedly went beyond "occasional" use.
Sources told The Times that Musk had a box of medication containing 20 pills, including Adderall, a drug containing a mixture of amphetamine salts. Musk also reportedly used ketamine frequently, which led to bladder problems for the billionaire.
In addition, some people who know Elon Musk have reported frequent mood swings and an obsession with having more children. The billionaire's eccentric behavior, including insults to government officials, Nazi salutes, and incoherent speech during public appearances, may have been related to drug use.
The Wall Street Journal previously reported that Musk had used LSD, cocaine, ecstasy, and hallucinogenic mushrooms at private parties, which raised concerns among members of the boards of directors of Tesla and SpaceX.
It is noted that Musk received warnings about upcoming drug testing at SpaceX, although the company, as a government contractor, is required to conduct random checks.
During his time in the spotlight for right-wing Republican politics, Musk also faced personal challenges, including a legal battle over custody of his five-year-old son, X, who appeared in a relationship with musician Grimes.
It is currently known that Elon Musk is officially leaving the Donald Trump administration after his work on the DOGE project, which was intended to reduce US government spending, but he will continue to be an unofficial advisor to President Trump.
