Google to appeal Epic's victory in US Supreme Court
Epic Games won a court case against Google this summer that could significantly change the way Android works, and Google Play in particular. However, the American tech giant is in no hurry to accept this decision and intends to appeal it to the US Supreme Court, The Verge reports.
In addition to the summer ruling, on September 12, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld it and gave Google until October to make certain changes to the system. In particular, the company must allow developers to link to other payment methods rather than forcing them to use Google Play Billing. This also applies to app downloads.
Google hopes the Supreme Court will review the case. The company insists that lower courts overstepped their authority. Google also believes that Apple's victory in the Epic case could be important for its case.
The company plans to file a full appeal with the Supreme Court by October 27, 2025, and is asking for a decision by October 17 on whether to stay the injunction. In the meantime, the district court judge who issued the injunction has ordered Google and Epic to explain by October 30 how they will comply with it.
