Information has emerged about the internal codename Google has determined for the next version of the Android mobile operating system. This was reported by the Android Authority portal.
Android 17 has been dubbed "Cinnamon Bun." This name will not be used in public releases, but will appear in early betas, including in the "About phone" section in Settings.
The tradition of dessert-based names for Android has been going on since version 1.5 Cupcake. Although Google stopped using these names publicly with Android 10, internal coding is still based on desserts. Android 16, for example, was named "Baklava." Since Cupcake was already in use, the company chose another variant with the letter "C."
The first version of Android 17 for developers is expected to be available in November 2025, with beta versions arriving in early 2026. Once the platform is stable, the name "Cinnamon Bun" will be replaced with the standard name - Android 17.
Google continues to use a "trunk" development model, which allows you to speed up the release of updates and avoid the shortcomings of the previous approach. At the time of publication, the company does not disclose the functional innovations of Android 17. It is only known that the name "Cinnamon Bun" will be the first mention of the new version in the system settings of Pixel devices and other smartphones that will participate in testing
