Google has introduced a free version of its video editor Vids, allowing all users to try out the service's basic features. Previously, access to the editor was limited to Google Workspace or AI subscriptions.
The free version includes templates, stock footage, and some AI capabilities. However, new generative AI tools that allow you to create videos from a single image or use AI avatars to narrate messages are only available with a paid subscription. At launch, there are 12 avatars with different looks and voices, but so far users can't create their own avatars, as is implemented in Zoom.
New AI features in the paid version include a tool to automatically trim pauses and distracting words from recordings, saving time when creating presentations or training videos. According to Google, these tools allow companies to create content quickly and cost-effectively, without lengthy filming with actors and high production costs.
