Google TV and Android TV will require less RAM, making them more affordable

Google wants to make smart TVs with Google TV or Android TV even more affordable by reducing the amount of RAM required to run the systems, said Shobana Radhakrishnan, senior director of engineering at Google TV.

According to her, Google will work with select TV manufacturers to make the Google TV platform more accessible and reliable on cheaper TVs.

While this move could make smart TVs cheaper, it would potentially impact the platform's performance. Google TV currently requires at least 2GB of RAM, while Android TV requires 1GB.

There are already Google TV set-top boxes and TVs on the market that have only 1.5 GB of RAM, so the company's cooperation with manufacturers could lower the minimum requirement to 1 GB. In the case of new models, everything will depend on how effectively Google can optimize its system for such parameters.
