Google wants to make Translate a competitor to Duolingo

Google has announced a new feature for its Translator app — it will now help users learn foreign languages using AI, and will also be able to translate conversations in real time.

The learning tool is now available in beta to select users. It creates personalized lessons based on your language level and learning goals, such as preparing for travel, work meetings, or everyday conversations. Currently, it supports English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese.

Users can select their level of knowledge and scenario, after which Gemini's artificial intelligence will generate a lesson that can be completed interactively: practice conversations or listen to dialogues by clicking on known words.

Additionally, Google Translate now has a live conversation translation feature that works in over 70 languages. It is available to users in the US, India, and Mexico and allows for two-way conversations by automatically translating speech in real time.

Google is also experimenting with making the synthesized translation voice sound similar to the user's voice, but this feature has not yet been launched.
