Google will add new features to the Play Games profile and make them publicly available
Google has announced an update to Play Games accounts that will add new features for tracking game progress and statistics. The company will now make them publicly available so players can share their gaming achievements with others.
The changes will take effect globally on September 23, 2025, and in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom on October 1. As a result of the update, the Play Games profile will become the central hub for all gaming activities on Android smartphones.
The profile will include basic features — achievements and syncing progress across devices, as well as expanded statistics and game progression, new tools for building a gaming community, and account personalization options.
Google isn't revealing details about the new features, but when combined with Play Games' public profiles feature, the service could become a kind of Steam for Android. At the same time, the company notes that users will be able to view their game profiles directly in the Google Play Store, without having to open other apps.
Recall that earlier rumors began to spread online that Google may add forums to the Play Store, but Play Games, on the contrary, may become another project of the company that will go to the cemetery due to the transfer of key features to the store.
