Play Games could be the next service to end up in the Google Graveyard
Google has begun moving core Play Games features directly to the Play Store. According to researcher AssembleDebug, elements like gamer profiles, the ability to track achievements, and a feature to follow other users have already appeared in the Play Store code.
Although there is no official confirmation from Google yet, the app hasn't received any major updates in a while. This could indicate that it is preparing to shut down, as happened to Google Podcasts and a number of other services in 2024.
This is the version of Play Games for Android, which was released in 2013. The Google Play Games for PC platform, which allows you to run Android games on Windows, continues to work and remains in beta.
