Google is celebrating the 10th anniversary of Google Photos by unveiling a redesign of the editor that includes new artificial intelligence (AI) features. These features, previously only available on Pixel devices, are now open to a wider range of users, expanding the possibilities of photo editing.
One of the key new features is Reimagine, which uses generative AI to change the objects and backgrounds in a photo using text queries. For example, you can ask to replace a cloudy sky with a clear blue one. Another feature, Auto Frame, helps improve the composition of a photo by suggesting options for cropping, expanding, or filling in empty spaces with AI.
The editor also gets a new AI Enhance mode, which lets you quickly apply multiple effects at once, such as sharpening and object removal. Users can also select specific parts of a photo to edit, receiving personalized recommendations, such as lighting correction or background blur.
The update will start rolling out to Android next month and iOS later this year. Google is also adding the ability to share albums via QR codes, making it easier for other people to access your photos.
