The Google Phone app has received call personalization, like on the iPhone

Google has updated the Phone app with a new feature called "Calling Cards," which lets you customize your incoming call screen. Users can now replace the standard small contact photos with full-screen images with a choice of fonts and colors — similar to the "Contact Posters" feature on the iPhone that debuted back in 2023.

To create a contact card, you need to select an image from your camera roll, gallery, or Google Photos, and customize the font and color for the contact's name. Unlike iOS, users can't create their own card to display to people they call—the changes only apply to your device.

Google is also launching a new feature called "Accept," which automatically answers missed calls and transcribes voicemails. It's available on Pixel 4 and later smartphones, as well as Pixel Watch 2 paired with Pixel 6 and later.

The rollout is "gradual", so the feature may not appear immediately.

Google has also updated the Phone interface to reflect Material 3 Expressive design, making it simpler and more convenient. They've added quick access to block numbers, record calls, and manage your call history, and improved spam filtering, so you can report unwanted numbers faster.

These changes are part of a broader Material 3 Expressive rebranding that Google is rolling out across a number of apps: Contacts, Gmail, Photos, Wallet, and more. The overall goal is to make the interfaces brighter, simpler, and more personalized.
