Google moves Pixel smartphone production from Vietnam to India due to high US tariffs

- 24 April, 12:55 AM

Google has decided to move the production of Pixel smartphones from Vietnam to India to avoid high tariffs on imports to the US, 9to5google reports, citing The Economic Times.

According to the latest reports, the company has already held talks with Indian partners such as Dixon Technologies and Foxconn to organize production. This move will allow Google to reduce costs, as tariffs on products from Vietnam are 46%, while from India - only 26%.

Google already has experience manufacturing Pixels in India, starting in August 2024 when the Pixel 8 was released. The company is now planning to expand production, including the new Pixel 9 models, which will be manufactured for the domestic market and export to the US. Google is also looking to localize the production of components such as cases, chargers, fingerprint sensors, and batteries, which will also help reduce costs.

This strategic move is a response to uncertainty over US tariff policy, which could impact imports from Vietnam. Shifting production to India will allow Google to ensure supply stability and reduce its reliance on imported components.
