Google changes decision to deactivate goo.gl shortened links
Google has decided not to discontinue support for all goo.gl shortened URLs created using the Google URL Shortener service, as previously announced.
On August 1, the company announced that links without a notification of upcoming deactivation would remain active and work as before. Google notes that many of these links are embedded in documents, videos, and posts, so the decision was changed based on feedback received.
Last July, Google announced plans to deactivate all goo.gl links starting August 25, 2025, citing a decline in their activity. According to the company, more than 99% of such addresses had not had any recent clicks.
However, the company is now adjusting its plans – only those links that have not had any activity since the end of 2024 will be disabled. Links that are still receiving clicks will remain available.
