Google may bring back the Home brand for smart speakers
Google may bring back the Google Home name for its smart speakers. A new version of the Google Home app for Android has found mentions of the Google Home Speaker device and support for 360 audio, 9to5Google reports. In 2019, the company dropped the Google Home brand in favor of Nest for the Nest Audio and Nest Mini models.
The speaker was first briefly mentioned during the Made by Google presentation in August, and its full debut is expected on October 1, 2025, along with the new 2K Nest cameras. The analysis also indicates that at the same time as the Google Home Speaker, the company will rename its Nest Aware subscription service to Google Home Premium and position it as an addition to the Google One package.
The new device will be powered by Gemini for Home AI, which will be available on current Nest devices this fall. In the ad, Google promises "new voices," the ability to find events in the video archive, and control your smart home via Ask Home. If the name does indeed return to Google Home, it would mark an attempt to align the hardware portfolio with the eponymous app and new AI services, leaving the Nest branding for cameras and thermostats.
The Google Home Speaker name may be temporary for now, but the switch to the Home brand seems logical due to the major ecosystem reboot with Gemini .
