YouTube continues to expand the capabilities of short-form video content, and this summer the service will receive a significant update - integration with the Google Veo 3 video generator. This was announced by YouTube CEO Neil Mohan at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
According to Mohan, YouTube Shorts is already seeing rapid growth in popularity, with views up 186% in the past year. On average, users now watch 200 billion short videos every day. Given the success of the format, the Veo 3 integration could accelerate its growth even further.
Google's Veo 3 is a powerful new AI video model that can create incredibly realistic video and audio based on text prompts. Its clips are currently limited to 8 seconds, which is in line with YouTube's concept of short videos. However, Veo 3 outputs 720p landscape videos, which means there will be black bars in the short clip. The company is expected to adapt the technology to vertical video orientation.
Despite the benefits of the new feature, access to Veo 3 may be paid. Currently, to use it, you need to subscribe to Google AI Ultra, which costs $250, which allows you to create up to 125 videos per month.
