Gboard has a new feature called "Google Autofill," which lets users view saved passwords and payment information directly from the keyboard. The update is available in Gboard beta 15.7.5.787916401, provided that Google Play Services version 25.30 or later is installed. 9to5google reports.
To activate the feature, the user must enable "Google Autofill" in the on-screen keyboard's system settings. After that, the corresponding icon — a square with a star and a pencil — will appear among the Gboard shortcuts and can be moved to the suggestions bar.
The feature opens in a rectangular keyboard window and offers two options: "Passwords" and "Payment methods". The passwords section only displays credentials for the current application. To access payment cards, you must enter a security code. This solution is more convenient than the previous method of manually copying data from the password manager.
At the time of publication, the feature is not yet available to a wide range of users. Its gradual rollout is expected in the near future.
